Jiko Sawdust Stove

Jiko stove before installation at Academy of Hidden Talents in Kenya

Description In countries where forests are depleted, wood becomes scarce and expensive, raising the cost of both wood and charcoal. These sawdust Jikos use less expensive fuel, sawdust and other biomass, such as husks. According to one orphanage, "The jikos are helping us a great deal. We use much less money on sawdust than we use on firewood. We spend about 400 shillings worth of sawdust in a day compared to 2,300 we used to spend" They are working well enough that the school is looking into buying two more.
