Hosts Sustainable Orphanage Summit
On Oct. 30th, 2008 a summit was held to create a model for
self-sustaining orphanage practices. Representatives from orphanages
and schools in Kenya, Uganda, India, Ghana and Mexico were present.
"The goal was to create a succinct model that offered
proven guidelines-- rather than pages and pages of jargon. We
strove for proverb like descriptions: culturally transitive,
easily recalled and applied. The day went by quickly, and while
the dialogue proved effective, the connections and associations
made were equally valuable," reports Celeste Mergens, director
of the Clay Foundation. The model is to be a living document,
changing with the input of those who apply it. Celeste says,
"Requests for a model were coming in from many orphanages.
This summit was our response."
Project Thrive will be hosting a Sustainable Orphanages Conference
in Sept. 2009. For more information contact info@clayforearth.org.
